Sandblasting Contractor
Abrasive Blasting is a powerful and efficient process that can clean and prepare a wide range of surfaces. The process of industrial or commercial blasting is to employ high volume compressed air using a selected abrasive onto a surface to be cleaned.
Sand was traditionally the most common type of abrasive, hence the term 'sandblasting', although due to its high silica content it is now illegal to use when basting with air for health and safety reasons. A wide variety of sand blasting abrasives are available depending on the project. Below is a short list of examples:
1. A course grade abrasive with maximum air pressure and air volume would be used for removing rust from steel or similar surfaces. This would quickly cut through the rust and old paint, leaving an etched surface profile that would be ideal for re-painting.
2. To remove paint from brick or block would require a medium grade abrasive at a reduced pressure. This combination would cut through the paint without damaging the surface below.
3. A fine grade abrasive at low pressure would be used to remove paint from thin metal. This would leave a very fine etch on the surface but without distortion.
4. A fine grade abrasive at high pressure is used on wood to clean the surface and expose the grain. This is common in building restorations where the timbers are to be exposed.
Abrasive choice, air pressure and volume are very important. Operator care and attention to detail are equally importance.
