How We Paint A Ceiling
When the professionals at Painting Contractor USA paint a ceiling we do it with several goals in mind. First is the protection of your valuable assets. Ceiling paint protects wood, metals, fibers and other materials from corrosion and decay. Second is appearance. Fresh paint on ceilings not only looks good but it provides a reflective surface to improve factory lighting. And third, reduced expense and maintenance. A good coat of ceiling paint makes clean up easier and reduces maintenance expenses. In other words, it is cheaper to paint a ceiling rather than allow it to deteriorate and have to replace it.
Now we will walk you through the basic steps to paint a ceiling. The steps can be broken down into evaluation, preparation, application, drying and clean up. We will go into each of these in some detail. However, keep in mind that this is not intended to be a “manual” on how to paint a ceiling. We just want to provide our clients an overview of the care and procedures we put into every ceiling painting job we undertake.
Evaluation
We start every job with a careful examination of the ceiling we are painting. We check for flaws, cracks or other conditions that pose a hazard to safety or potential structural problems of the roof. We advise our client of any issues we discover and handle any minor repair issues needed.
Safety Meetings
Before we start we review all safety issues with your plant personnel. We take great pride in working injury free and we fully understand the need to comply with your specific requirements for workplace safety. Our team works with your safety staff to establish and review all safety regulations and discuss potential trouble areas. We often work in such a way that you do not need to close your plant during ceiling painting. This involves careful planning and preparation to make sure that our work force, as well as yours, is safe at all times.
Install Curtain Walls
Let’s face it. Painting is messy work. As ceiling painting professionals we are experienced in containing debris from cleaning and overspray during painting. In our business neatness counts! Our poly film curtain walls stop dust, dirt and overspray from leaching outside of the work area. We seal the curtain walls at the top and bottom to keep the rest of the plant clean while we are painting your ceilings. We also cover all machinery, products, shelving and other times below the ceiling to protect them as well.
Ceiling Cleaning
As much as 80% or more of coating adhesion failures are due to improper surface preparation. Oil and grease are the most common forms of surface debris in a factory environment. Oxidation, rust, corrosion, heat scale, tarnish and even old paint need to be cleaned to ensure proper adhesion of paints and primers.
Our first cleaning step is often mechanical cleaning. This includes sanding, sandblasting, scraping, wire brushing, power washing and other techniques depending on the ceiling material and building contents. We prefer to do this step ourselves as much as possible however, there are times that we will call in Power Washing Mclean. If, for instance, chemical assisted cleaning is needed we use more environmentally friendly aqueous cleaning that does an excellent job and protects the environment.
Ceiling Painting
Now that the surfaces are expertly prepared we move on to painting the ceiling. We use only high quality primers and paints. Better paints, expertly applied mean a higher transfer efficiency. Transfer efficiency is simply the relationship between the paint used and what ends up on the ceiling. Our technicians are skilled at reducing overspray to reduce materials costs, improve clean up time and protect the environment.
We use a wide variety of application methods for ceiling painting. Low-volume high-pressure spray (LVHP) is a common method that works well in many open environments. Airless and air-assisted systems are also used. These have the advantage of higher transfer efficiencies and can handle a wide range of fluid viscosities. Plus they leave a very nice finish. Of course we also use brushes and rollers as the situation dictates. Our goal is always high quality and high efficiency.
Our crews are expertly trained and experienced. They have many goals in mind when painting ceilings. A quality finish, efficient use of materials and minimizing clean up time by reducing overspray. Each area is important to reduce the overall costs of our ceiling painting services and ensure that our clients are thrilled with our work.
Clean up
Our clean up procedures are no less important than any other aspect of our work. Once finished we remove all poly film and masking from the walls, lighting an any equipment or parts we covered during preparation. We sweep and clean the entire work area removing all containers and debris generated during the painting process.
All of our equipment is cleaned in an environmentally responsible manner. Solvents and paints are disposed of at proper sites specifically designed for handling these materials. Filters are also disposed of in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Final Walk Through
Now that everything is nice and tidy we do a final walk through to ensure that you are 100% satisfied with the ceiling painting work we just completed. At this time we will answer any final questions you might have. We also discuss maintenance issues that your plant staff can perform to make sure your ceiling looks great for as long as possible.
